Types of Watch Crystals
Acrylic – Acrylic crystals were the most common type of crystal up until the 1970’s. They are shatter resistant, but can easily scratch and fade. Since acrylic is so soft, scratches can often be buffed and polished out to make it look like new. But we can replace them as well if the damage is severe.
Mineral Glass – Mineral glass crystals are the most common type of crystal today. They are hard and do not scratch easily, but can shatter on impact. Glass replacements are the most common replacements we perform, and standard shapes start at $45 per watch.
Synthetic Sapphire – Synthetic sapphire crystals are the hardest, most durable material used for watch crystals. Sapphire crystals are scratch resistance, but can still shatter on impact. Many luxury watch manufacturers use sapphire crystals, and our expert watch repair team can replace them.
